As an old seaman and getting older every day, I must mention that some of the terminology is quite landlubberly cute. Ships don&#039;t &quot;park&quot;. They &quot;moor&quot; or &quot;dock&quot; or are &quot;on the hook&quot;. 

Ships are almost living things. Once at sea they are operational 24/7. There is no real day or night.   A ship sets sail anytime conditions permit. Sitting in port is very expensive and doesn&#039;t make a profit for the shipowners.
