We are staying near one of the main causeways here across the Indian River, called the Melbourne Causeway. Chris has started getting up to go for a walk across the causeway for exercise, and yesterday he came back and reported that he had spotted dolphins and some sort of rays (e.g. sting rays or manta rays type of creatures) in the water.  Marine wildlife seen in the wild – how cool is that, eh?!

So that motivated me to get up and accompany him on the first part of his walk today, to see if I, too, could spot some animals and get some photos.  Chris was the first to spot a dolphin splashing around, and he also spotted a couple of rays, but by the time I could get my camera out the animals were gone.

While I stood in the same spot and watched for  a while,  I never did get any photos of marine life. There were plenty of other signs of life on the causeway, though:

Note that while the causeway does have a rise in the middle of it as it cross the river, the roadway itself is straight. I’m standing at the top-most point to take that photo above, so the walkers you see were walking downhill away from me. I bring this up, because in the next photo — shot while looking across the road to capture the clouds in the sky —  the “sweep panorama” feature on my phone was apparently confused as to how to put the panorama together, so it looks like the roadway is curved in the middle. It isn’t.

You might spot a couple of birds sitting on a sign in that photo if you click to enlarge it, but that’s about all the wildlife-in-the-water photography I did today, unfortunately.

Of course, on the way back to our vacation condo,  I did spot a little “creature” under a set of palm tress. Well, at least from a distance it look like a four-legged create with a snout:

Just a morphic branch, not an actual wild animal of any type, though. But that was as close as I got to doing any non-bird animal photography today. Think of it as weird wildlife for a Wednesday.
