Travel Tuesdays: Floral Marshland

Travel Tuesdays takes us today to here in Arcata, at the scenic swamp land, — er, marsh that’s between Arcata and Humboldt Bay. More or less.

The area was originally a sewage treatment plant, but a while back (20 years ago? 15?) they converted the area to a fancy waste-water treatment swamp/marsh. It is rather scenic on a sunny day, particularly since there were more flowers than I’d expected.

Below are a few photos I took a couple of weeks ago.  See what you think.

  1. The third one down is Queen Anne’s Lace, isn’t it? In July, I saw that all over the roadsides near Sonoma. It was a favorite of mine when I was a child (in VA). I’ve been as much entertained as pleased to see it become a highfalutin’ florists’ darling a few years back.

  2. I like all of your thistle pictures and I like your prim picture of the Queen Ann’s Lace in all of its delicacy. Now I can hardly wait to see what you see in Australia. Can you put your pictures on line from there or shall we wait until you get back to the U.S.?
