It’s been several years since Chris and I visited the top of the Lamberti Tower in Verona, so we decided to go up to the top last week. From there you can get the postcard shot of the vendors and their white umbrellas in Piazza Erbe below. It’s not quite the real postcard shot anymore — the vendors have standardized stalls and umbrellas, not like the somewhat more varied ones in years past. For centuries Piazza Erbe was the place that vendors sold fruits and vegetables, but that’s changing here in Verona, and most of the stalls now sell souvenirs and trinkets.

Anyway, the view from the top of the tower is still good; not only can you get the “postcard shot” of Piazza Erbe, but you can also get a couple of nice views of the rest of town. I didn’t use the rainy day yesterday to sort through my photos, but at least I have a sample to share today.

You can compare that one with this one which I took in 2003 on our first visit to Verona (that one is now offered for sale, BTW, on throw pillows and tote bags at Red Bubble. I mention that only because one of my motivations for going up to the top of the tower on this trip was to get a current photo of Piazza Erbe to (eventually) offer for sale in my Red Bubble shop.

One last photo:  another look at the Lamberti tower, taken from inside the tower’s courtyard. The thing sticking out on the right are the rack of lights used to illuminate the tower at night.
