Well, before I get to my original “fantastic” thing for this post, I’d just like to mention that Chris and I are switching locations today to our new home for the next month: a gorgeous house with a very cute, very mellow cat named Chattie. 
It’s a fantastic place!! I’ll get some photos up as soon as I can – between packing, moving and also some of those routine doctor visit things that we’re doing all week I just didn’t have time to take them today.
Anyway, the rest of this post will focus on the other “fantastic” thing – one that is quite literally about fans. I know, I know, I keep complaining about how hot it is here in the Eastern U.S. But one thing that is different from the heat back in Bolzano was that you didn’t really find many different types of fans available, let alone air-conditioners. So it’s been fun to have the chance for both things back here in the U.S. I mean, in both Italy and Germany we had free-standing fans, but here in the U.S. we’re finding that ceiling fans have become ubiquitous.
And it turns out that they make for some great photo ops, due to some unexpected ways in which the shape seems to morph when you photograph them to create some “fantastic” (in the unbelievable sense) fans. I had some fun one night in CT photographing the ceiling fans in our bedroom to try to capture this in a photo. When you look at the photos below, keep in mind that there is no actual outer circular ring around the motor section; it’s an illusion of the motion and the small strip of metal that is on just the end of each blade. Fun! I also had a little fun later changing the colors a little bit, just to punch them up a bit, as my father used to say.
Anyway, I guess it just goes to show that some good can come from being in the hot weather and needing a fan.

cool. I am glad to comment, after I read your blog. My computer is fixed. I needed a new linkage cable from or to my hard drive from or to some where else. I have new memory just need to get a skate to transfer all my stuff on tho the new hard drive from the old one.
glad you are able to photograph unusual phenomena. Oh I just bought a manual camera. Need to see how it works, its also film from 1996 I will tell you more later

Thanks, Kathy – I’ll be interested to hear how you like returning to a manual camera. For me, the fun of being in the “digital darkoom” outweighs anything that film can offer me at this point. Just the other day I was offered a manual (film) camera and turned it down, as I love the digital stuff too much at this point. But I also remember the fun of the day you taught me darkroom stuff with film, all those years ago!
